Diary without AI
PrivaLog is a diary app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and the web, with no AI built in. What you write is encrypted on your own device. Without an account it stays there; with Pro it syncs only in encrypted form. Only you hold the key, so no AI service can read your diary either.
You write, PrivaLog keeps it. That's all:
It's not just a policy; it's how PrivaLog is built. Your entries are encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM. Without an account, your diary and its key never leave your device. With an account, the key sits behind a diary passphrase that only you know, and that passphrase never reaches us.
If you use sync, our servers only ever hold your diary in encrypted form, so it can sync between your devices. They can't read it. Search runs on your device once you unlock the diary, not in the cloud. Even if we wanted to analyse your entries, there would be nothing for us to read.
PrivaLog has no say over the rest of your device. If you have Apple Intelligence turned on, the system offers Apple's Writing Tools in text fields, PrivaLog's included. They only touch your text when you open them yourself. A third-party keyboard or a browser extension can also see what you type.
If you do want an AI to read your diary, that's your call. The app can export your entries as Markdown, ready to share with tools like ChatGPT or Claude. That export is plain, readable text, so the app warns you first and asks you to confirm. PrivaLog never does this on its own, and once a readable export leaves your device, PrivaLog can't protect it.
No. Your entries are encrypted on your device. Without an account, nothing from your diary reaches us. With an account, the key sits behind your diary passphrase, which never reaches us. We can then see your email address, which days you wrote on and when entries were changed, but not what you wrote.
Only with an account. It keeps signing in and opening your diary apart: if someone gets into your account, say through your email, your entries stay unreadable. Day to day you open your diary with Face ID or Touch ID, and the device passcode is not enough, so someone who has watched you type it still can't get in. Without an account there is no passphrase: your diary opens the way you unlock your device.
No. We can't read your entries, and we don't send them to any AI service. Only you can share them with an AI, by exporting them yourself.
On iPhone, iPad and Mac, yes: you can read and write without a connection, and with Pro everything syncs once you're back online. The web app does need a connection to open.
Writing on iPhone, iPad and Mac is free, without an account. PrivaLog Pro adds an encrypted copy in the cloud, sync between your devices and writing on the web, for €24.99 a year or €2.99 a month. You can try Pro free for 14 days: no payment, and nothing renews. Afterwards you keep writing on your device; sync and the web pause until you choose Pro.
Then nobody can open your entries, us included. There's no reset: a back door for us would be a back door for others too. So keep your passphrase somewhere only you control.
No. PrivaLog runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac. With Pro you can also write on the web, but you create your account in the app.
